Some people like it because they get to go to a contested area expecting the attack, instead of walking around Azeroth and being forced to engage in PvP or die.

To encourage people to PvP, Blizzard added in an Honor System, this system is designed to give you a rank on how much opposing faction players you have killed.

Each week they tally up the amounts of players you have killed and adjust your rank accordingly.

Along the way to the top, there are many new items that become available, some are very powerful compared to items you find in Azeroth.

If you reach the highest rank items if extreme power available to you making it vary difficult to kill you, once you achieve this rank the items and weapons stay available even if you drop in PvP rank you only need achieve the rank to buy the item.
